One of the more common questions we get from people on a regular basis is how do you manage all of the passwords for both work and personal. Password best practice involves not using the same password for every service but this can leave you with hundreds of passwords to remember.

Free Options

Our current recommendation for a free password manager is Bitwarden. [https://www.bitwarden.com].

Their free accounts allow sharing for you and one other with their 2-Person Org and paid tiers for family sharing of up to 6 people. Full features can be viewed here: https://bitwarden.com/pricing/

Quick Start

  1. Create Your Bitwarden Account
  2. Get Started with the Web Vault
  3. Get Started with Browser Extensions
  4. Get Started with Mobile Apps
  5. Get Started with Desktop Apps

Google Password Manager

Google Password Manager supports Chrome Sync is a good option and ties this to your Google Account. Bear in mind Google Chrome supports the use of multiple profiles should you not want your personal passwords tied to your school account.

Recommended Paid Options

The Bitwarden premium options are good but as a team, we are currently using 1Password [https://1password.com].

We're using 1Password because it was a more mature product when we first started 5 years ago. Bitwarden would be more cost-effective for anyone looking for a personal account.

Previously

Previously we were recommending LastPass, this isn't a bad option but their free tier isn't as attractive as it once was. Our biggest issue is the removal of syncing between devices on the free tier meant this wasn't as usable.
