At Hoe Valley School we use a piece of software called papercut to manage the volume of printing.
As a paperless school staff and students are actively encouraged to think before they print. Once a user's account get to £0 they will not be able to print.
As of the time of writing the costs for printing are set at:
Single Sided Print | Double Sided Print (Duplex)
Colour | Mono | Colour | Mono
A4 | £0.03 | £0.01 | £0.05 | £0.01 |
A3 | £0.05 | £0.03 | £0.07 | £0.04 |
Please note: The school isn't making any profit from this. These have been worked out by calculating the charge per side of paper printed, for each piece of paper and the lease for the copiers. The paper will vary each time it is purchased and while the school will endeavour to get the best possible price these prices are subject to change without notice.
Staff
Staff have defaults set to mono and duplex printing but this can be overridden but is discouraged.
Students
Are limited to printing mono and double-sided outside of Art/Photography.
An initial balance has been set for students £5 with an automatic top-up of £1 per month limited to £10 maximum.
How do I view how much a print job will cost?
The interface is identical for both Staff and Students. Once you've logged into the printer you can select 'Print Release' then you can view how much the job will cost and as shown below:
Figure 1: (Above): the cost is shown in the light blue bar along the top.
How do I adjust the job after I've sent it to the printer?
To adjust the job you can select the '>' on the right of the job from the 'Print Release' screen (figure 1). Within this screen, you can change from 1 to 2-sided, from Colour to Grayscale (Mono) and the quantity of copies.
Figure 2: Settings for adjusting a single job
If you adjust the job any costs and your final balance will be reflected on the bottom row.
